Why LIFT Is Different
for Beginners
Most gyms call themselves judgment-free, but they put you on a floor with 200 strangers and hand you a key fob. LIFT Lincoln is actually built for people who are starting from zero. The gym is private, appointment-only, and limited to a maximum of two people per session. You are not sharing space with a crowd. You are training with a certified coach who is focused entirely on you.
Private Facility, No Crowds
LIFT Lincoln is not a big-box gym. It is a private training facility in Lincoln, RI where your session is your session. There are no rows of treadmills, no packed weight floors, no strangers watching you figure things out. The maximum number of people training at one time is two. That is the kind of environment where beginners actually learn, because they are not self-conscious about making mistakes.
A Coach With You, Not a Screen
Marissa is a certified personal trainer and the owner of LIFT Lincoln. She is on the floor with you during every session. She does not hand you a printed plan and walk away. She does not point you toward a machine and say good luck. She stands next to you, watches every rep, teaches every movement, and adjusts in real time based on what she sees. That is what coaching actually looks like.
Proper Form from Day One
The biggest risk for beginners is not the weight. It is learning bad habits that are hard to unlearn later. Marissa teaches proper form, proper breathing, proper bracing, and proper tempo from your very first session. You build a foundation that makes everything after it safer and more effective. This is how a beginner gym in Lincoln, RI should work.
Progress at Your Pace
There is no class to keep up with. No group moving at a speed that does not match yours. At LIFT Lincoln, your program is written for you. If you need more time on a movement, you take more time. If something feels too easy, Marissa adjusts it. The pace is yours, and it changes as you grow stronger and more confident.
Your First Week
What Your First Week
Looks Like
Starting at a new gym is intimidating. Here is exactly what happens when you walk into LIFT Lincoln for the first time, so there are no surprises.
Tour the Gym
You walk in, meet Marissa, and see the space. She shows you every piece of equipment, explains how the facility works, and answers every question you have. This is not a sales tour. It is an honest look at where you will be training. The gym is clean, organized, and smaller than you expect. That is on purpose.
Learn the Basics
Your first session is about learning, not suffering. Marissa teaches you foundational movements: how to hinge, how to squat, how to press, how to brace your core. She watches your movement patterns, identifies what needs work, and starts building your program around what she sees. You will leave knowing more than you did when you walked in.
Start Your Custom Program
Based on your first session, Marissa writes a training program designed for your body, your goals, and your current ability level. From here, every session builds on the last. She tracks your progress, adjusts the plan, and keeps you moving forward at the right pace. By the end of your first week, you will feel like you belong here. Because you do.
Common Concerns
You Do Not Need to
Know Anything
Every beginner has the same fears before walking into a gym for the first time. Here are the most common ones, and the honest answers.
What do I wear?
Whatever you are comfortable moving in. Sneakers, athletic clothes, and a water bottle. That is it. You do not need special shoes, lifting gloves, or a belt. Just show up in something you can squat in. Marissa will tell you if you ever need anything specific as your training progresses.
What do I bring?
A water bottle and yourself. LIFT Lincoln has everything else. Towels, equipment, coaching. If you want to track your workouts, bring your phone. But you do not need to bring a plan, a program, or any prior knowledge. That is what Marissa is here for.
Will I be judged?
No, and not in the way some gyms say it while putting you in a room with 200 people. LIFT Lincoln is a private facility. The maximum number of people training at one time is two. There is no audience. There is no one watching you struggle with a machine. It is you, your coach, and the work. Judgment-free is not a slogan here. It is the physical design of the gym.
Am I too out of shape to start?
No. Marissa has trained people who have never touched a weight in their lives. She has trained people coming back from injuries, people in their 70s, and people who have not exercised in decades. The program starts where you are, not where you think you should be. If you can walk in the door, you can train at LIFT.

Returning After Years Away
Life happened. Kids, work, injuries, whatever it was. You used to be active and now you are not. Marissa builds your program based on where you are today, not where you were five years ago.
Coming From a Chain Gym
